Our Health

Our first "CHCS Biggest Winner" program began in mid-January 2008! The idea was met with much enthusiasm after many of us over-indulged throughout the holiday season!

The program will conclude near the end of the school year (each campus has different beginning and ending dates), and the overall "Biggest Winners" for the North and Green campuses will then be announced.

Since the onset of the program, there has been a weekly weigh-in day at each school. Our participants actual weight remains confidential -- we are tracking the percentage of weight lost from one week to the next.

This program is intended to provide helpful guidelines as we learn about becoming more fit. It is not as structured or intense as the TV version. It is, however, geared toward helping those interested in joining us on a journey toward fitness and better health.

Many of us have watched the contestants on the TV show "The Biggest Loser". We've seen their amazing transformations over the weeks of determination and hard work. Their stories are truly inspiring. Each person on that show had come to a point in their lives where they knew that something had to change. A life-defining moment.

Spring Conert

Fit for the King!

The North campus of Chapel Hill Christian School recently held their annual Spring event -- Fit For the King! day, with a theme of physical fitness and healthy living. There was a special presentation for the entire school by Mark Rothstein s World of Jumping Ropes. Mark, the Jump Rope Man, performed feats of amazing jump-roping skills, while focusing on character and wellness. Students in Kindergarten through 6th grade eagerly participated in jump rope clinics following the assembly.

In addition to these special events, coaches and athletes from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy held clinics in individual sports -- track, basketball, baseball, soccer, football and cheerleading and students took turns rotating through the various stations. Five of the athletes were CHCS alumni, and each of the coaches who participated have children currently attending Chapel Hill

A mystery celebrity , Ronald McDonald, also held assemblies for Kindergarten through 6th grades, discussing the importance of physical activity and a healthy diet. He visited the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classrooms, reading stories to the children. A fun time was had by all!

Sixth Grade vs Teachers Kickball Game

Principal For the Day

For selling the most boxes of London's candy bars during the recent fundraiser, one of our 5th grade girls was named Principal For the Day! Assisting our young principal was her assistant principal, also in the 5th grade.

Our winner declared an out-of-uniform day, but not just your average out-of-uniform day. Students were permitted to be out-of-uniform, wearing unmatched socks, or they could come to school in their pajamas!

She performed her duties faithfully throughout the day, visiting each classroom and reading a story to the younger students. Quite a full day just like a real principal!

Cub Scout Pack 3181 Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is a chance for Scouts to learn about participating, trying hard, winning, loosing, learning, experimenting, playing, and celebrating. It's a chance for dads and moms to demonstrate mentoring skills and patience, to understand motivations and needs, and to participate in development of manual skills, social skills, and sportsmanship. Don't overlook the opportunity to provide shared experiences with other dads, moms, and scouts during the designing, building, and testing stages of pre-race preparations. There can be a lot of satisfaction from teamwork as well as from individual work.

Handbells & Ensemble

Pictures from our ministry at Hickory Ridge Nursing & Rehab in Akron. Handbells & Ensemble went on Wed. Dec. 12th. We played and sang for the residents and had a time of group singing with them.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Each year the students at the North campus of Chapel Hill Christian School observe Johnny Appleseed Day. This year, Mrs. Hopkin's first grade class learned about the contributions Johnny Appleseed made to Ohio. They also made caramel apples, apple prints, pot hats to wear and went on an apple scavenger hunt. Two older students, Jordan (6th grade) and Mackenzie Wear (3rd grade) acted out the story and life of Johnny Appleseed, complete with costumes, as well as teaching some songs that Johnny sang throughout his life.

Last Day Carnival at CHCS Green campus

Students at our Green campus didn't mind coming to school when they saw the fun-filled carnival that was organized by Volunteers kept things running smoothly members of the school's PTF (Parent Teacher Fellowship), as well as now-junior high CHCS alumni. Carnival games, face painting, and a hotdog lunch were all part of the festivities. What a fun way to kick off summer!

Patriotic Pride Day

We recently had Patriotic Pride Day at CHCS! Students were able to dress "out of uniform" in red, white and blue clothing. We witnessed red, white and blue ponytail holders, bandanas, necklaces, pins, bracelets, shirts, and shoes! Our wonderful PTF parents did a great job of decorating the building -- when you walked into the building, you couldn't help but be proud to be an American!

We had an assembly with each class presenting a patriotic selection to share with the student body. It was very exciting to see a military Humvee parked on our playground, and we all enjoyed watching a military helicopter land right in the middle of our own soccer field! The children even had the opportunity to sit in these military vehicles and have some pictures taken. What a thrill!

SFC David Pickens and a couple members of his unit came and spent the day with us. They talked with us and answered student questions. One thing SFC Pickens shared with us is that freedom is not free. Our soldiers are putting their very lives on the line to protect our freedom. We should all have grateful hearts.

I am thankful to be an American and I am quite thankful to live in a country where we can have a Patriotic Pride Day in our school. Praise the Lord we do live in the "land of the free."

Fran Kitchen Goes to Kindergarten

In you enjoy the birds and other wildlife in your own backyard, the parks or just in general, you owe it to yourself and them -- to become more educated about these creatures. The kindergarten class at Chapel Hill Christian School recently had a wonderful guest speaker on this subject, who has become a yearly guest at CHCS

Fran Kitchen, from Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc., spoke to the class about how she takes care of orphan animals with the goal of helping them to get healthy and then return to the wild. In addition to some wild animals that have been rescued, Fran brought some very well-trained dogs to illustrate how obedient animals can be if trained properly.

Global Warming Solutions

The children of our country may be the generation most impacted by the effects of global warming. TCP, a leading manufacturer in energy efficient lighting, is launching a nationwide program to spark interest and ignite ideas in the minds of children on possible solutions to the issue of global warming. TCP was recently at the Green campus of Chapel Hill Christian School to present Bright Town the Search for Inky. The program consisted of a 3-D cartoon assembly, a fundraiser, and so much more! TC and his sidekick Watts-on came to life in this educational assembly, where the students became aware of the rising problem and what THEY can do to fix it. With a 3-D cartoon, lightshow, music, and so much more, the students were entertained and educated by the energy and action that took place during this dynamic performance.

See You At the Pole

The fifth and sixth grade students at Chapel Hill Christian School gathered on Wednesday, September 26 for "See You At the Pole", a day nationally observed by schools throughout the U.S. This time was set aside to pray for many things, including our country, all levels of our government, those serving in the military, as well as school and family matters.

Grandparents

The Preschool class at Chapel Hill Christian School recently held a program in honor of Grandparents. Grandparents enjoyed a program featuring their grandchildren, followed by being able to share some time with them. The 3-year-old Preschool is a new class at CHCS this year, and teachers have many creative methods for teaching these little ones.
