First Day Fun at CHCS
Chapel Hill Christian School got back into the swing of things this week. Smiling faces were seen around the building and on the playground as friends got reunited and new friends were made after a long, hot summer. Kailey Tyna, 3rd grader, is a new student at CHCS this year. Her classmates quickly welcomed her as they enjoyed climbing around on the playground equipment
The teachers and students were eager to start learning. Mrs. Watson's sixth grade class got right to work, and Mrs. Gingerich's fourth grade class learned about each other with an All About Me assignment. In Senora Hall's Spanish classes, students received their Spanish name and practiced reciting it. All around the building, students started the year with fun-filled enrichment activities.
The Art Dept never sleeps...
CHCS Students Share Artistic Gifts in Our Community
Several Chapel Hill North students have the honor of sharing their artistic gifts with our community. Akron Children's Hospital has selected eight students' artwork for purchase to brighten up their facility and provide cheerful encouragement to kids who need it. Congratulations to Mary Graham and Lauren McNeil, 2nd grade, for their radiating line and crayon drawings; Caleb Marchand, 3rd grade, for his weaving; Conner Mullins, 3rd grade, for his Chagall-inspired dreamscape; Jacob Decatur, 3rd grade, for his fantasy robot taking care of things in his living room; Claudia Bosshard, 3rd grade, for her Matisse-inspired self-portrait; and Ed Hosey and Jada Wright, 5th grade, for their oil pastel and watercolor resist seascapes.
Children's has a rich relationship with the community it serves. In addition to purchases of student artwork, they invite groups of students in to update larger artwork installations regularly. CHCS is able to share in this endeavor as well. One of our ongoing community ministries is painting the ER windows on a seasonal rotation.
Thanks to Mrs. Osborne's first grade for sharing the Fruit of the Spirit in a very literal way with Haven of Rest. This spring in art, the first graders worked in groups to create a Fruit of the Spirit papier-mâché mobile. The many strawberry baskets filling the garden closet shelves inspired us to create papier-mâché fruits to go with the baskets, nine for each basket, to be exact; apples oranges, kiwi, and coconuts represented love, joy, peace, and patience for each other as we worked on this project. Our blessing continues as Haven of Rest has accepted our handiwork to be a visual aide in teaching the women and children who come to the Haven in need of spiritual and physical refreshment how to tap into the wellspring of the Holy Spirit.
In regional news, congratulations go to Tyra Foster, 3rd grade, and Jillian Merkel, 2nd grade, for representing CHCS among 50 submissions for the front cover of the fall program guide for Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio. Tyra's piece, a Chagall-inspired dreamscape, is being considered as one of two finalists from among the 50 to be featured on the cover. If selected, Tyra's art will be seen by teachers and students in schools throughout Northeast Ohio.
Young Audiences, based in Shaker Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, is a community liaison between professional visual and performing artists and the schools. They bring professional artists and musicians together with our young people by sending the artists into the schools to perform and work directly with students. Education is greatly enriched by exploring content through artistic venues not regularly afforded in the traditional classroom.
Congratulations to all of these students for sharing in an exuberant way the gifts and talents that God has so richly bestowed upon them. It is our prayer at CHCS that God will use the talents and the voices of our young ones to reach our school, our communities, and the world for Him!
Congratulations to the Class of 2010
May God continue to guide you as begin your middle school journey! We will miss all of you!
Art Show
The winners from the Regional ASCI Art Show were featured in a section of their own, as were all of the pieces shown in the retrospective, "Artist of the Week", pieces featured throughout preceding year.
Each student who takes art had a piece featured in the show...it was our "Chapel Hill Museum"!
Preschoolers had a section all their own featuring a city they had made collaboratively.
Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Day Parade
Greetings all,
Our family would like to express gratitude for the privilege to participate in the Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Day Parade. It brings us great joy to promote "our" school. We are truly thankful for Chapel Hill Christian School and its leadership and teachers. We trust that our Lord Jesus Christ used the experience to encourage other parents to consider sending their children to CHCS. Regards,
The Kreider Family
World Geography Day
The students at the North Campus celebrated "World Geography Day" on Tuesday, April 27. The students spent the day learning about different cultures and traditions around the world, map skills, and world geography. They enjoyed a fabulous assembly with Gordon Russ, the World Geography Magician. Hands-on activities included making cookie relief maps, hunting for gold in Africa on a giant longitude/latitude grid, and finding geography games and activities on the internet. It was a day filled with lots learning and tons of fun.

Winter Blankets
During one of our cold winter months, Mrs. Osborne's first grade class at Chapel Hill Christian School took lap blankets to Alzheimer residents at a local nursing home. The children brought in fleece material and spent a day making them by cutting, tying and knotting the fabric. They were hard workers! After the project was completed, the class spent time praying over the blankets. They traveled to the nursing home and gave each resident a blanket so that they could be "wrapped in Jesus' love" all winter long.

First Day Fun at CHCS
Chapel Hill Christian School got back into the swing of things this week. Smiling faces were seen around the building and on the playground as friends got reunited and new friends were made after a long, hot summer.
The teachers and students were eager to start learning. Mr. Barrett's sixth grade class took off their shoes for a lesson in classification. Students collaborated in teams to sort all of their shoes into categories. Each team had to brain-storm a new way to classify the shoes. Mrs. Smucker's preschool class went on a scavenger hunt to find treasures around the classroom, and Mrs. Cole's fifth grade class engaged in a math lesson. Throughout the first week, in Senora Hall's Spanish classes, students received their Spanish name and practiced reciting it. All around the building, students started the year with fun-filled enrichment activities.

"Parent Night Out"
Parent Night Out was held last Friday, February 19th! It was a great night for our wonderful parents to go out and have fun, while we took care of their children! The students participated in games, art and crafts, bouncy houses, and watched a movie. We even had a balloon artist visit us to make balloon creations! Thank you to everyone who helped make this night a success!
"Biographical Tea"

Mrs. Martin's Third Grade class presented a Biographical tea for their families! Each student researched, prepared a report, and presented a Historical figure throughout the tea. The studetns learned that everyone is blessed with gifts and talents from God and that we need to use this gifts to God's glory. It was a wonderful day for our CHCS families and a memorable learning experience for the students.

"Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation"
Fran Kitchen from Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation, Inc., a not-for-profit agency, visited the Green campus Kindergarten classes with some of her animals. Fran's goal is to rehabilitate injured and orphan animals, releasing them back into the wild. As she speaks, she also strives to educate others on the wildlife in their neighborhoods and the proper way to treat the animals they may come in contact with. The Kindergartners were excited to see and hear the stories about their unique visitors.
Christmas at the Green Campus!
The Christmas season is in full swing at the Green Campus. Our Early Childhood Students kicked off the season with a beautiful Christmas Musical called, Don't Be Scared. The third grade students opened the show by singing "Happy Birthday, Jesus". The program was followed by a cookie and punch reception. Our PTF delivered cookie trays to the CHCS staff and sang Christmas carols to each classroom. What a joyous season we are in!

New Parents Breakfast
The PTF sponsored a breakfast for parents new to CHCS Green Campus. It was a beautiful event where the new parents got together for fellowship and to learn more about our wonderful school.
Preschool Grandparents Day
The Preschool students enjoyed a special time with their grandparents on Wednesday. The students prepared songs, crafts, and had a photo opportunity with their grandparents. What a wonderful memory for the students and families!
Fire Safety
Cowboy Bob visited Chapel Hill Christian School. He was very entertaining and shared an excellent message with our students on Fire Safety. The students learned to stop, drop, and roll, what to do when they smell smoke, what NOT to play with, etc. It was a fun day with Cowboy Bob!
C is for...... Clifford!
The preschool learned about the letter C with activities centered around Clifford the Big Red Dog! The excitement on the student's faces was priceless as they crafted Clifford ears, ate Clifford snacks, read Clifford stories, and even took turns taking a ride on the back of Clifford the Big Red Dog ( a stuffed animal, of courses!).
Learning A Through Z
The Kindergarten classes at Chapel Hill Christian School have a yearly tradition after they have mastered each letter of the alphabet. On a designated day, each child is permitted to "dress up" in an outfit that represents a letter of the alphabet, rather than their school uniform. The children have a parade through the school, making stops along the way, gladly telling whoever asks which letter they represent!
Sharing the Love
At a recent chapel service, the students at Chapel Hill Christian School learned about sharing God's love from guest speaker, Deb Jansen, who presented an excellent object lesson. Using balloons and weaving a story explaining how we share God's love with others, Mrs. Jansen illustrated the act of giving. Inflated balloons were dropped from the stage and, with the help of several student volunteers, were then distributed to every student in the gymnasium.
Each CHCS campus conducts a weekly chapel service, led by one of the teachers at the school or by a guest speaker.
